The “Art of the Possible” Scott Jensen to Present at ASRS Annual Meeting

At this year’s ASRS Annual Meeting, EcoPoint’s Scott Jensen will present The “Art of the Possible”: Enhancing Biodiversity through a Dedicated Native Seed Nursery.

The presentation focuses on a growing challenge in reclamation and restoration work across the West: access to diverse, site-adapted native plant materials. Traditional reclamation seed mixes are often limited in both species diversity and regional adaptability, especially as environmental conditions continue to shift. To help address this, EcoPoint began developing a dedicated native seed nursery focused on species that support mule deer, pronghorn, pollinators, and broader biodiversity goals. Since late 2024, the project has completed more than 200 seed collections representing over 60 native species. Initial seed increase gardens were established in 2024, followed by scaling production to approximately 100,000 live native plants in 2025.

The presentation will also highlight how live native plant installation can improve establishment rates and provide faster vegetation recovery compared to traditional seeding approaches in arid western environments. More broadly, the project explores how reclamation efforts can move beyond basic revegetation toward long-term habitat functionality and biodiversity enhancement through locally adapted native species.

Scott will be presenting on Monday, June 8th at 4:00 p.m. at the 2026 American Society of Reclamation Sciences (ASRS) Annual Meeting in Laramie, Wyoming. Click here to review the entire schedule for the annual meeting.
